Using the site
No account is needed. OttoBib does not use tracking cookies, third-party advertising scripts, or a browser analytics service. The ISBN converter performs its arithmetic in your browser.
Aggregate citation actions
Citation pages can report successful clipboard copies, download initiation, and JSON-link activation. These client-reported actions help us understand usefulness. They do not establish who used a citation or that a download completed.
Accepted action records contain only a timestamp, action, citation style, release version, record kind, and whether the submission was an internal check. They omit ISBNs, citation text, client pseudonyms, user agents, and referrers. The event request sends no credentials or referrer.
The action script honors browser Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control signals. Opting out or a failed submission never prevents copying, downloading, or following a link.
Operational logs
Serving requests also creates operational logs used for reliability, abuse prevention, and aggregate traffic reports. Depending on the request, records can include the requested path or ISBN, status, timing, user agent, referrer, and a temporary client pseudonym.
The application does not log client IP addresses. Client pseudonyms rotate at UTC midnight and when the service restarts; they cannot identify the same client across those epochs. Action submissions are excluded from identifying application and edge access logs.
These browser privacy signals control action reporting; they do not disable the operational logging needed to serve the site. Operational logs and backups can outlive the daily rotation of client pseudonyms.
